Today collections of the National Museum of Colombia - fruit of anthropological research , donations and acquisitions, amounted to more than 20 thousand pieces , symbol of the history and heritage (vestiges of the first settlers and material culture of pre-Hispanic societies objects of the present indigenous and Afro-Colombian ethnography , testimonies of different periods of national history and works of artistic value ranging from colonial to art ' first modern as Fernando Botero , Alejandro Obregón , Guillermo Wiedemann , Juan Antonio Roda , Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar and Edgar Negret Enrique Grau ) .


The Museum offers visitors 17 permanent exhibition halls , in which are exhibited around 2,500 objects , a temporary exhibition schedule has allowed Colombians to get in touch with important examples of history, art and national and international archeology , and a varied academic and cultural programming including lectures , concerts , theater and dance performances , videos and Annual Lecture History ' Ernesto Restrepo Tirado ' , held continuously for more than 10 years .



It has also developed an ongoing program of international exhibitions , among which are: large format Sorolla , Eugène Boudin, Henry Moore , Picasso in Bogota , Masterpieces of European painting . Rau Collection , Rembrandt , Egypt : the passage to eternity, The Terracotta Warriors , an army immortal , and Sipan , the last treasure of America. These samples have received a massive response from the public , thanks to a pricing policy which allows to reach all audiences .

On the other hand , publications gathered the wealth of the collections and the memories it referred to academic meetings . Furthermore, the development of new technologies such as website, with tours and virtual exhibitions , creates new and contemporary ways of interacting with the public.

Today the Museum is working on implementing the 2001-2010 Strategic Plan , a roadmap to ten years , which routes all human and financial resources in three major areas : construction of multiple narratives of the history of cultural processes in Colombia , public development and strengthening of the country's museums .

on Carrera 7, between Calles 28 and 29.

PARKING AREAS
There are public service parking in the streets surrounding the Museum:
- Calle 27 between Carreras 7 and 6
- Calle 28 between Carreras 7 and 5
- Calle 29 between Carreras 5 and 6
- Calle 28 between Carreras 7 and 13 (Residential Tequendama).
Free admission to the permanent showrooms throughout 2013.
Entrance fees for some of the temporary exhibitions vary with each sample.

190 years of existence
More than 20 000 objects. 17 showrooms. 13,000 meters square ...

The oldest traces of man in Colombia (10,000 BC), scientific instruments, ceramics, furniture, portraits, banners, testimonials and Afro-Colombian indigenous wisdom, unique national art pieces, memories of heroes ... Treasures belonging to 41 million Colombians.

Exposition

Currently open to the public 17 rooms completely renovated permanent exhibition in which approximately 2,500 objects on display from the collections of art, history, ethnography and archeology of the Museum.

Temporary Exhibition Hall, located on the first floor, offers a continuous program of exhibitions on various subjects and authors of history, anthropology, and the national and international art.
The classification of museum pieces allows its documentation and its management , as well as conservation. Classification systems for collections date back to the sixteenth century and have evolved since the way it organizes a collection is testimonial of the relationship between human beings and the outside world.



Museums today handle different parts classified systems through hierarchies. At the National Museum of Colombia there are four types of collection that are grouped according to the way they acquire the objects within the institution : Archaeology, Art , History and Ethnography.



The collections of archeology and ethnography prehispanic indigenous and Afro twentieth century are preserved , researched and published by the Curatorial Department of Archaeology and Ethnography run by the Heritage Division of the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History - ICANH .



History collections from the sixteenth to the twentieth and the different periods of Colombian art , with its international art section , are the responsibility of the Curatorial Department of Art and History .
